Status of Urban Gardens in Racine
Wish I had better news.
RUGN seams to be existing to plan meetings for more meetings. Just last Friday planed to go forward with a 501 (c) 3 in some form. Will use UW Parkside as a fiscal agenit and pay the 10% fee.
Took RUGN two months to understand that The City did have 5 places for Garden plots. I think RUGN be quite upset when The City tells them The City will not donate water to them to use nor can RUGN use water out of Lake Michagan.
Communty Action Agency will donate liabity coverage in some cases to garden groups CAA is also working on a county wide meeting on a wide range of issues. I will do another post on CAA plans very interesting stuff.
My thought is that RUGN is too disorganized to get much done we will see what Winter brings.
WE need to be acting not holding meetings

Earth Day
Is it too early to start thinking about projects for Earth Day?
I am looking for folks to help clean up two Community Gardens. The Capt Jones Victory Garden at the 200 blk of Jones St in Racine and the Gardens at the John Bryant Center on 21st in Racine.
After a full days work the event would be capped off with pizza and soda. Alsio looking for donations for gardening tools for the John Bryant center.
Please contact me at wclingman@wi.rr.com if interested

Victory Gardens
In my last post I linked to a story about food shoratages due to E 85 use. To save $$ my kin will be growing victory gardens. Why not you?
There are many around Racine most have room for you to have a plot. Sure it takes time to take care of a garden but just think you can get outside get some sun see how this good earth gives us what we need to live on.
Wish we could have Fowl I loved to have some chickens get rid of the damed beetles hell on mosquitos. Better then using spray.
Think about starting one.

Growing power
Came across this site doing research http://www.growingpower.org/index.htm
Are they rocking or what? What a great way to help empower folks to help themselves.
Also with Urban Farming we learn how to grow our own foods bring control of that into our hands.
Some of us might have the chance to grow a surplus to sell at a farmers market. Groups like this are a great way to learn.
Please check out the site and visit.
